96-well Piko® PCR Plates
Description
Piko® PCR Plates are a family of PCR plates which have the footprint of a microscope slide. We have not only shrunk the size of the plate, but dramatically reduced the thickness of the well walls utilizing our patented ultra-thin wall (UTW®) technology. Four plates can be snapped into a single frame producing the equivalent of a standard 384-well microplate.
Ultra-thin walled, or UTW®, PCR tubes and plates are manufactured utilizing a patent-pending process for molding polypropylene vessels with walls that are 2x thinner than conventional thin walled tubes. Our line of UTW® vessels have walls that are 0.15 mm thin where it matters most — at the contact point between the thermal cycler block and the reactants. Thinner walls offer less thermal resistance for transferring heat from the block to the sample within the tube. This results in the ability to perform very rapid protocols by reducing incubation times during PCR.
The transition to working with 96-well Piko® PCR Plates in a conventional lab setting is seamless. The well-to-well spacing of this plate is based on the ubiquitous standard of 4.5 mm center-to-center spacing common to conventional 384-well microplates.
In addition, we have molded an optional frame complying with the standard dimensions of microplates, into which up to four 96-well Piko® PCR Plates may be easily inserted . This assembly allows our plates to be loaded by common multi-channel pipetors or state of the art liquid handlers, and also makes the plates compatible with a wide array of conventional lab equipment and analysis instrumentation.
96-well Piko® PCR Plates afford considerable savings of cost, time and reagents as compared with conventional microplates. Our UTW® technology can help reduce protocol times by up to 30%.
When used with a Piko® Thermal Cycler, 96-well Piko® PCR Plates accept 5 µl to 20 µl reaction volumes for PCR. These plates exhibits less than 2% loss with starting reaction volumes of 5 ul, even after strenuous cycling regimes. They are also designed to work with a multitude of sealing films.
